Laura Fauquier was born in Ottawa, Canada. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts interdisciplinary degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (Halifax) in 2006. Her major areas of study were textiles, photography and jewellery. In 2006-07 she was an intern at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England.
Her primary medium is loom weaving using merino wools from Italy, Uruguay and Peru. Employing traditional techniques, she creates one of kind scarves, one-overs and throws in vibrant, contemporary patterns.
Her colour palette is inspired by her own landscape photography capturing the abstract texture of things found deteriorating in their environment: iron, tree bark, oil on water, peeling paint. In this way, she links together the idea of what is naturally aging with what is new… in form, materials and function.
Laura moved to Almonte, Ontario in 2013. From 2014-19 she was the owner of Threadwork, a studio/retail shop focusing on hand-made textiles and wearables. She lives with her family on a rural property outside Almonte.
